Monks Again Defeated.

Our friend, Ed. A. Seay, Esq., kindly furnishes us with the following items in regard to the arrest of Messrs. McKinny and Gladden of Howell county, as accessors to the murder of Sheriff Hugh Cordell, a few weeks since:

McKinney and Gladden were summoned by the sheriff t oasis in the arrest of a horse thief named Riley.  They overtook Riley and West, who was with him, drew his revolver and commenced firing, Cordell returning his shots.  The result was, both were killed.  McKinney and Gladden, though present did not participate in the firing.  At the insistence of Monks, Gov. McClurg offered a reward of $400 for the arrest of the murderers of Cordell. Monks, having an eye to the reward, caused the arrest of McKinney and Gladden, but the grand jury of Howell county, at its recent session, failed to get a bill against them.  Judge Perry claimed that the Howell grand jury were prejudiced, and sent the prisoners to Dent county jail.  The grand jury of Dent county passed upon the case, and found no bill.  Monks failed to get the $400, but succeeded in adding another item to the many charges of perfidious rascality heaped against his name.- Rolla (Mo.) Herald, May 27.
