Company C – Sergeant Woods and ten men of this company surprised a party of Rebels 18 in number on Bryants Fork of White River, on the 10th inst (May 1863), killing two & capturing one & five horses – horses small and mostly unserviceable.

 

Forty men of this company under the Capt. & 1st Lt Miller scouted from the 12th to the 23rd in Ozark, Douglas & Howell counties.  In Hutton Valley, near West Plains a noted bushwhacker, by the name of Morgan was killed & a gang of Rebels driven South.  On the 28th the Company reported to Maj Hornbeak at Linden Christian Co Mo.

 

Company D – This Company left camp at Marshfield, Webster Co. Mo on the 2nd under the Captain comdg.  On the 6th in Wright Co. came upon a party of bushwhackers 20 in number killing one, wounding one and capturing two.  On the 7th returned to camp.  On the 17th 30 men of this Company & 20 of Company F under Captain Rush started for Wright County, on the 19th captured one Rebel, one musket, six Rifles and one pistol.  On the 21st returned to Marshfield.

The regiment has scouted in small parties, the largest being only 80 strong, over fourteen counties & in two instances crossing into Arkansas during this month.  It is sadly in need of drill, if opportunities could be found for it, but is so scattered & busy that nothing can be done to amount to much in that way at present.

 

Company C – June 1st scouted in Douglas County until June 6.  Killed one noto (notorious) bushwhacker.  June 9 started to Big North Fork in Douglas & Howell counties with a Lt & twenty men.  Scouted for six days broke up a rebel camp, killing one & returned to Linden on 16th.  Scouted in Christian & Taney until 27th.  Went to Marshfield Mo June 30 1863 by order of Maj Jno Hornbeak.

 

Company D – June 5. 1863  This company scouted to Wright & Texas County.  June 17, Made scout to Wright Co scattered a gang of Rebels & released a Union prisoner.  June 21, Went to West Plains & Rockbridge, through Wright Douglas Ozarks & Howell counties – a hard trip --- ---- & not much to eat.

 

Company F – Four scouts this month.  In the last which started June 21 & returned June 29, under command of Major --- , went to West Plains, had three skirmishes, killed fourteen bushwhackers, captured 15 horses, lost three horses.
